This Saturday 8 June Magnetic Island celebrates World Oceans Day. It will be a fun, family friendly day with kids games, beach BBQ, an overhead photo opportunity, face painting, ocean art, talks, beach clean ups and live performances by Tim Griffin, the Godfathers Of Funk plus our local island fire group, the Fire Flyz.
This world wide project connects 85 countries who are focussed on protecting, as well as celebrating about our world's oceans.
The Nelly Bay Snorkel Trail will be there as well for those who want to get in the water. If you love the ocean, come and join in and support World Ocean's Day 2013:
9.30 am: Beach Clean Up.
10.00am: Traditional Welcome Ceremony.
10.30: Talk on corals by Dr. Andrew Lewis.
10.40: Talk on turtles by Jo Peterson, MINT.
10.45-12.30: Games for kids including building sand castles, 3 legged races for kids and adults (sprints to 50m), story telling by Sharon Jupp from MI State School and marine art by students and adults.
11.00-14.00: Face painting.
11.15-11.40: Get ready for the The Red Barron fly-by which will take a picture of the WOD celebration from the air. We invite you to take part in forming a large human word (WOD initials) on the beach for the overhead picture.

14.00: Art auction of Wendy MacDonald's marine artwork.
12.00 noon-13.30: Base Backpackers BBQ (a $5 charge for a snag, salad & soft drink with the majority of the funds to be donated to MINT).
13.00-13.30: Public Open Mic. Tell us why you love the ocean or what it does for you.
13.30-14.00: Drum circle on the beach, lead by Dr. Andy Lewis.
14.15-14.45: Laughing Yoga Circle on the beach.
14.30 onwards: Tim Griffin and The Godfathers of Funk live at Base.
18.30: A spectacular twighlight performance of the fire twirling Fire Flyz on the beach.
