6:30pm -8:30pm Tuesday 31 January 2012

The Townsville Tourism Opportunity Plan (TOP), 2007-2010 Destination Marketing Plan and the Sustainable Regions for Queensland - Magnetic Island report all identify Magnetic Island as a major development catalyst for the Townsville region.

The TOP proposed that a key theme for this tourism precinct is Sustainability and listed a number of specific tourism projects that are needed to enhance Magnetic Island as a Sustainable Destination. The aim of the ‘Magnetic Island as a Sustainable Destination’ project is to conduct detailed market research to assess new product options.

This research was funded by DEEDI and SeaLink Qld as part of the Tourism Projects Pre-Feasibility Grants scheme because it specifically targets the key theme of Magnetic Island as a Sustainable Destination.
In the first stage of the project 884 surveys have been completed by both visitors to the region and Townsville residents.

The respondents are comprised of a mix of those who have visited the Island and those that have not and survey explores potential support for different sustainable tourism products and experiences.
Representatives from TEL and TCC will participate in the workshops and your views and contribution to this project are key to achieving desirable outcomes for Magnetic Island.
