Last year MINCA's Radical Bay Ramble saw about 30 members and friends out for a fabulous morning's walk to the Island's most iconic east coast beaches. Peppered with speakers brimming with expertise, the ramble mixed environmental insights with the simple joy of a walk with friends in a gorgeous environment.

Now, get ready for A Walk on the West Side.
Yes, Magnetic Island's very different and very beautiful West Coast is where we are headed and, like the Radical Ramble, there's going to be ecological experts including our President, Gethin Morgan, Island bird watching guru, Christine Corbett as well as Sue and Leon Zann who lived on the West Coast in the late 1970s and who bring yarns of a simpler, wilder life plus fascinating environmental knowledge too. And don't be surprised if there's more impromptu knowledge sharing by others attending as happened along the Radical Ramble.

Our walk will of course take us right through the centre of MINCA's Bolger Bay Conservation park.
The land we worked hard with our members, the state and Federal governments, in the late 1990s, to purchase and preserve for conservation purposes.

But what you need to know is that the Walk on the West Side begins where the bitumen ends on the West Point road adjacent to the Citiwater Pump Station. We meet up at 8am on Sunday 6 September. We recommend you bring your own sun and mozzie protection, plenty of water, refreshments and snacks for a brunch at West Point before we turn around to head back.

From Pump Station to West Point and back is approximately 8 kms.  It's an easy walk on a dirt track with only one discernible hill and it's not big. We estimate that, overall, the walk will be finished between 11.30am and noon.

Date: Sunday 8 September
Time: 8am - 11.30am
Distance: Approx. 8km (easy walk)
Meet: At the end of the tarmac on the West Point Road, next to the pumping station.

Bring: Water, hat, sunscreen, walking shoes and snacks.
Cost: Free. (Any gold coin donations that you would like to offer will go to the Magnetic Island Nature Care Association.)
