servicesWhether you want to find a great BBQ spot or drop the boat in for a sail, here are a couple of the Magnetic Island services and facilities which you may find handy:

Aged/Diabled Residents & Visitors
Magnetic Island Community Care provides services to aged and disabled residents and visitors of Magnetic Island. They also provide mobility and assistive equipment such as shower chairs to holiday makers if they need assistance. For more information view/download their MICare Service Users Handbook.

ATM's are located at, Picnic Bay Hotel, Foodworks Nelly Bay, Arcadia Hotel, and Foodworks Horseshoe Bay. EFTPOS is also available at most island businesses.

There is 1 bank on Magnetic Island - Queensland Country Credit Union, located at Nelly Bay Harbour shops (near the bakery).

The Magnetic Island Bakery is at the corner of Mandalay Ave and Sooning St, opposite the harbour (and next to the bank). You'll also find great bakery treats at Arcadia Store, Foodworks Nelly Bay, IGA and many of the small island cafes.

Cookies On Magnetic (Breads and cookies etc.)
Artisan breads, cookies, pies, sausage rolls, and catering for special occasions including cakes. Ask Carol about her Sunday Buffet Breakfast (8.30am - 11am) and her Friday Night Buffet.
At: Magnetic Island Country Club (rear room at the Golf Club), Hurst St, Picnic Bay.
Open: Tuesday to Saturday 8.30am - 2.00pm.

BBQ Areas
Free public BBQ areas are located at:
• Picnic Bay jetty park
• Nelly Bay, Cnr Sooning St & Mandalay Ave (Opposite the Harbour)
• Nelly Bay, The Esplanade
(Opposite end of beach to Base Backpackers)
• Alma Bay
• Horseshoe Bay
Please keep Magnetic Island beautiful by removing all your rubbish and cleaning the BBQ's once you have finished.

There are 4 bottle shops on Magnetic Island, located at:

The chemist is located at the Nelly Bay Foodworks shopping centre.

Dog Grooming

- Accredited 14 years experience
Book your dog in for a grooming appointment, then go for lunch or visit the island and collect your dog when they are ready. Qualified Certificate 3 Groomer, dog behaviorist, holistic pet care. Maria also offers professional dog sit in her home that includes day care.  Overnight and weekly holliday care also includes grooming dip.Prices vary on services required. Townsville is the largest local hospital to Magnetic Island. In severe cases a helicopter services the island.

Magnetic Island is well covered with WiFi and internet services.

Limousines & Specialty Transport
Limousines: For that special occasion, tour or conference you can also hire a limosine to make your day complete.

Island Errands: A service for any random errands including to and from the Post Office, bakery, bottle shop, pharmacy, bank, small specific shopping lists etc. This is not a taxi service, and they do not carry passengers. Call 0478 080 924.

Mobile Library
If you need to catch up on some great reading, the mobile library visits Magnetic Island every Tuesday:

Time: 10am-3pm (Closed for lunch between 12-12.30pm)           
At: Lions Park, Cnr Mandalay and Sooning Streets, Nelly Bay. (Next to the Nelly Bay Harbour marina and opposite the bakery).

The main newsagency, Arcadia News, is located opposite Alma Bay Park, next to the Hotel Arcadia bus stop.

Petrol Stations
There are two petrol (fuel) stations on Magnetic Island. Neither are open after hours, so remember to top up during the day!

• Fish'n N Fuel'n, Mandalay Ave, Nelly Bay. Open: 6am-6pm
• Arcadia Store, Bright Ave, Arcadia.
Open: 8am-6pm

Poisons Information

The police station is located in Picnic Bay, although it unattended it diverts to Townsville.

Post Office
The post office is located in the Nelly Bay Harbourside shopping centre, on the corner of Sooning Street and Mandalay Ave.

Primary School & Daycare
Magnetic Island State School is located in Mandalay Avenue for primary school education and Magnetic Island Creche and Kindergarten is located in Sooning Street, Nelly Bay.

Public Swimming Pool
The Magnetic Island State School Swimming Pool is open to the public:
Monday to Friday: 6.00am - 7.00am and 4.30pm - 6.00pm
Saturday: 7.00am - 8.30am and from 3.30pm - 6.00pm
Sunday: 3.30pm - 6.00pm
Cost: Just $4 for a casual visit or $100 for a great value pool pass (valid from September 2017 to August 2018).
At: Sooning Street, Nelly Bay.

Magnetic Island Community Care (MICC) cares for the frail aged, those younger with disabilities, and carers in our community. It offers centre-based day care, social support, respite care, transport, counseling/support, information and advocacy, meals on wheels and domestic assistance. If you're looking to play tennis on Magnetic Island here are your options:

Bill McDonald is the local island vet, and can be found at 3/36 Mandalay Ave, Nelly Bay. Please phone for an appointment on 4778 5977. Usual opening times are Tuesday to Thursday 9am - 4pm and Saturday 9am - 12noon.
