Party on Magnetic Island

Aquapella World Music Choir

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrint

beatportraitThis award winning choir led by Beat Lehmann, performs at festivals as well as other public and private events and is comprised of people from all walks of life, all levels of musical skill, from both Magnetic Island and Townsville.

Information for New Members
Here is some basic information for you about joining Aquapella:

The island choir meets at the music room of the Primary School in Nelly Bay on Monday nights between 7.00 and 9.00pm.

The town choir at the Sailing Club at the Strand opposite the Tobruk Pool, (Mariners Drive), on Wednesday nights between 6.30 and 8.30pm.

There is no auditioning process and no former choir singing experience or special musical skills required, (like reading sheet-music). However, you are expected to be able to easily hold a simple tune.

Joining the choir is a medium to long-term commitment as we are a performing group, steadily building on a repertoire.

It’s absolutely fine, however, to be missing now and then due to work commitments, travel etc. If you want to join for a few weeks, just talk to Beat about joining as a guest member.

There is a term fee of $90/$60 concession, and the terms follow the school terms, (which equates to about 10 two hour practice sessions per term).

Our repertoire is mainly world music a cappella, but as such, it is extremely varied and diverse - expect to be exposed to some foreign languages.

To enable you to eventually catch up with our repertoire there is a practice CD and the sheet music for all songs available for $10.

If you decide to give it a go after listening in on a rehearsal, please email Beat your name and phone number, so he can keep you informed about rehearsals, workshops, performances etc.

If you have any further queries, don’t hesitate to contact Beat.

Happy singing!
